The event featured insights from senior travel retail executives from Qatar Airways and Qatar Duty Free, along with a compelling ‘in conversation’ dialogue with two renowned British entrepreneurs, Dr Sri (Founder of Bags of Ethics) and Dr Tara Lalvani (Founder & CEO of Beautifect.
Dr R Sri Ram said: “We all have a duty of care to our planet. The growth in people over the past 100 years has grown eight times and the effect this has had on our planet has meant more travel, more consumption, and overconsumption. Travel and retail in travel, is a true luxury, and it is incumbent on all of us to relook at how we can support communities across the world to deal with the growth in greenhouse gas emissions, and extraction of materials from the earth (water, minerals, agriculture etc).
We as a business have always sought to support our clients, in a collaborative manner, that does not penalise them but empowers them. We have combined innovation in materials and used the world of fashion and design to make our products desirable and reusable.
The success of our collaboration with Qatar Duty Free has meant we have raised millions of dollars (USD) for the charity Fashion Trust Arabia, and together with the leadership and vision of Qatar Duty Free, have reduced over 2 million plastic bags from the airport in Doha.
The event offered a perfect blend of networking and insightful conversation overlooking from a rooftop the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and Suquet old town.
We look forward to seeing the sustainability progress made by the businesses and leaders present following the successful 40th-year celebrations at TFWA.
