We are delighted to announce that Smruti Sriram, Chief Executive, Bags of Ethics (Supreme Creations), has been awarded an OBE in His Majesty The King’s, New Year’s Honours list 2025, for Services to Fashion.
A note from Smruti:
“I am deeply grateful for this honour and I want to recognise my entire family – at home, at work, and my community, who have been my inspiration and support”.
The Family Unit
My father, Dr. R. Sri Ram, founded the business over 35 years ago and is still a driving force of compassionate entrepreneurship and a leading visionary for sustainability, design, and innovation.
During these years he has created many institutions: the award-winning factory in Pondicherry in India; the incredible sales and marketing network of offices across Europe, the knowledge centre of digital and material engineers, whole teams of managers who service our global customers; and the wonderful Wings of Hope Children’s Charity which has supported over 40,000 students.
My wonderful mother, Rajni Sriram, has instilled in me the importance of service with her unwavering commitment to children, through her leadership at The Wings of Hope.
My husband, Dr. Joey Blunt’s incisive mind and “go for it, darling” attitude encourage me when ambitious projects try to get the better of me.
Getting this honour gives me a chance to reflect on the power of relationships, and some of the meaningful projects which have shaped me.
Great British Designer Face Masks Project
During the pandemic – thanks to the British Fashion Council, who under the leadership of Caroline Rush CBE, along with Millie Graham, Stacey James, Clara Mercer, a team of British designers and the entire Sai Supreme Pondicherry production team miracles happened.
We raised over £1 million for charity through the sale of reusable designer face masks. The impact also supported thousands of people across supply chains to stay in work.
Our customers
We are privileged to work with some of the best brands in the world: Dior, Burberry, and Nike, and also service emerging brands, ready for tomorrow’s success. Our reusable products are exceptionally designed, and beautifully manufactured, combatting single-use plastic pollution. We are deeply grateful to our customers for trusting us.
For The Love of Trees
In 2022, we were lucky to be part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) an initiative to plant, protect, and conserve trees for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. A staggering 3.75 million trees were planted for the campaign, and for me it opened my eyes to the amazing world of trees.
Green Tree Badge
A follow-up to the QGC campaign, and countless hours spent watching Hey Duggee, with my son, inspired me to take action for children. A partnership with The Royal Forestry Society led to the creation of The Green Tree Badge: a campaign aimed at getting 1 million children to learn more about trees through an activity book. The journey has begun, and I truly hope we reach our target!
Rise and Shine
When I was 18, I was fortunate to have been thrown in the deep end by my parents to help launch The Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA) with fellow gap year students. The annual cohort of 14 to 18-year-olds trooping through the hallowed halls of Westminster with their glittery scrapbooks, iced cupcakes, and fancy dress outfits brings immense happiness, hope, and the belief that acts of kindness in the community are the foundations of good leadership. With over 40,000 students having participated, we are able to witness social mobility in action.
Granny’s Inspiration
My remarkable Granny always says, “Never say you’re too busy; if the Prime Minister can do it, why can’t you?”
To my Supreme family: you bend time, with creativity, and a can-do attitude.
To uncle David, Zaibe Mutti, longstanding friends from Bal Vikas, school, universities, to my teachers, mentors, angels, wider family, support-system stars, customers, partners, suppliers, and charity patrons, thank you.
This award is delightful and I’m so grateful for it. But also know that there are many people who are deserving of recognition for everyday acts of kindness and boldness.
BOE to OBE!”
