How We Made a Sustainable Bag for Durham’s New Heritage Centre
The Story, a major new cultural spot, allows visitors to enjoy both permanent and temporary free exhibitions showcasing the Durham county’s amazing history. Exhibitions will highlight the often-overlooked stories and voices of the working people and communities that have played a key role in shaping the area.
The centre’s great opening is taking place mid-June 2024 and Durham County came to Bags of Ethics to create a branded tote bag, produced in a sustainable way.
More than a simple tote, we created a vibrant and creative beach bag that will be used and reused throughout the summer.
The locally farmed 11oz cotton canvas is dyed in warm orange pantone, matching The Story Durham centre brand guidelines. This spacious shopper has a gusset all around (38cm H x 48cm W x 10cm ) with large comfy shoulder straps made in a black web tape. The practical inner pocket is printed with Bags of Ethics sustainability message and a QR code to watch the bag’s production video.
We also supplied The Story Durham centre with Staff aprons using the same orange canvas and children’s aprons for their events with a more playful design and mismatched coloured straps.
Bags and aprons are produced in Bags of Ethics’s factory, Supreme Creations, an ethically audited factory with 80% + female workers at all level of responsibilities. Both products are 100% compostable, being made in cotton and printed using phthalates free inks and dyes.
