On 1st February 2024 Smruti Sriram, Chief Executive of Supreme Creations/ Bags of Ethics was a panellist on the Women in Travel Retail panel for sustainability held at the London Headquarters of Diageo.
The event featured discussions on sustainability in a retail context. The panelists were Smruti Sriram from Bags of Ethics; Diageo Global Travel CRD, Clemmie Raysnford; Sally Allington, from Ethos Farm, and moderator Angela Farrugia, Founder of Brand X Society. They explored various approaches and tools to foster a path towards a more environmentally-conscious and sustainable future in retail. Education, empowerment and advocacy were the watch words for the Women in Travel Retail+ Sustainability panel discussion.
“All of you here who are leading forces within travel retail – buying product, marketing products, moving products – are agents of change. When passengers are waiting in airports, train stations, or sea ports to go on their business trips, or holidays, you have the power to influence their shopping choices. If you can allow clients to have a reusable option of product, or one that reduces single-use plastic bags consumption that is a great start. Having supported airports around changing consumer behaviours to being more sustainable, we know that it is possible. By empowering customers through great design, and by not penalising them you have a great opportunity in the race to helping our dear planet,” said Smruti. “I encourage all of you to get better educated and there are brilliant online courses to support your knowledge base of your roles in businesses, hitting your KPIs and creating sustainable change.”
With sincere thanks to the Women in Travel Retail+ team for organising this event on such an important issue for such an important industry.
